Rogue Flashbender 2 Review

Flashbender Review

What is a Rogue Flashbender?  They are light modifiers that attach to nearly any speedlight via a velcro strap.  As the name suggests they are flexible, allowing you to control and shape the light.  They come in Large, Small, and Bounce Card.  I have the Large and it's perfect for portraits.

It attaches to your flash via a simple velcro buckle system found on other Rogue products such as the Flash Grid.  It is very adjustable, making it suitable for every external flash I've come across and certainly every one I own.

On its own it does a great job of enhancing and directing light.  During my in-laws holiday celebration in December I set up my speed light on one side of the room with the flash bender and directed the light at the large, vaulted, white ceiling overhead.

One of my favorite uses for the Flashbender 2 is as a snoot.  You can roll it into a tube shape and attach it to itself with the velcro strips on either side:

Doing this allows you to focus your flash into a narrow beam of light:

With the addition of the diffuser panel (sold separately) you've essentially got a portable 12" softbox that fits easily into your camera bag.  Without question this is how I most often use my Flashbender 2.

With this setup I am completely cord-free and able to move about on location with ease.  I pop my flash onto a sturdy light stand and take it with me whenever I need off camera lighting.  One thing I love about it is that I've yet to encounter any speakable loss of light, even with the diffuser panel on.

Rogue Flashbender 2 Review

I've been using my Flashbender for just over a year now and it has become an essential part of my kit.

  • Small, flexible, and convenient
  • Easy to attach and remove
  • Very sturdy construction - mine is in perfect condition a year later
  • All flash controls are accessible - it doesn't cover any buttons or sensors
  • Versatile - acts as a softbox, snoot, gobo, or bounce reflector
  • Perfect for using on-location

  • The only thing I can think of is that the diffuser panel doesn't come with the Flashbender.

You can buy the Flashbender and its accessories directly from Rogue or you can find them on Amazon.  Most camera shops carry them as well.  I know National Camera Exchange does.

Keep an eye out for my review of the Rogue Flash Grid - can you tell that I dig the Rogue products?

**Note - I am in no way affiliated with Rogue nor am I being compensated in any way for my opinion.  I purchased these items with my own money and my opinions are 100% my own.
